The Paleo diet. Adkins. Keto.\u00a0There are dozens of diets out there, all claiming to be the magic bullet that will deliver huge, impressive weight loss results if you just stick with it.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Some of these diets have been around for decades, and you know something?\u00a0 We still have an obesity epidemic in this country.\u00a0 The fad diets aren\u2019t delivering as promised.\u00a0 In fact, there\u2019s no evidence that they\u2019re delivering at all.\u00a0 So, what\u2019s the story?\u00a0 Are they all just scams?<\/p>\n<p>The answer is more complex and interesting than you might think, and the simple answer is no.\u00a0 They\u2019re not scams.\u00a0 They all can work, but there are a couple of catches that few people bother to talk about.<\/p>\n<p>Many of the fad diets work by starving your body in various ways.\u00a0 Unfortunately, that makes it super difficult to stick with any of them in the longer term,. In fact, after you\u2019ve put your body in starvation mode for a few weeks, when you drop out of the diet you\u2019re pursuing, you tend to overcompensate. The net result is that you gain more weight back than you lost while you were on the fad diet. Rinse and repeat 3-6 times over the course of the year and you begin to see the problem.<\/p>\n<p>At the root though, weight loss is very simple.\u00a0 If you\u2019re burning more calories than you\u2019re consuming, you lose weight. You don\u2019t want to burn many more calories than you\u2019re consuming, or your body will think it\u2019s in starvation mode and respond accordingly by storing and saving fat. So you\u2019ve got to keep the two in balance with a slight nudge toward calories burned, so that you gradually shed those pounds.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, the secret to weight loss is that there is no secret.\u00a0 Those extra pounds didn\u2019t appear overnight, and they won\u2019t go away overnight either.\u00a0 Eat a well-balanced healthy diet and stay active.
