Ancient Tools, Modern Solutions

Ayurveda, the world’s oldest known system of medicine, provides yet another view into the patient’s state of health and offers effective, powerful solutions to chronic problems. Literally translated as “the science of life,” Ayurveda is the traditional medicine of India and is more than 5,000 years old. Like acupuncture, Ayurveda is recognized by the World Health Organization for its effectiveness in treating chronic health problems.

Dr. Mitchell utilizes unique and insightful methods of Ayurvedic assessment, such as nadi vigyan (checking the pulse ). He then makes recommendations for diet, lifestyle and nutritional supplementation based on his findings. He has studied pulse assessment with Vaidya Pankaj Naram and Vaidya Smita Naram, India’s most acclaimed Ayurvedic physicians and masters of pulse diagnosis.

Dr. Mitchell often recommends Ayurvedic herbal remedies that gently bring the body into balance without creating undesirable side effects. As one of the state’s four certified herbalists, he is also knowledgeable about Chinese and American herbs and supplements.

Vaidya Smita Naram hosted Dr. Tom Mitchell in her Ayushakti Ayuved Clinic in 2019.

Try Shirodhara

This ancient Ayurvedic treatment involves the quiet streaming of warm oil over the forehead. It provides a total relaxation experience that quiets the nervous system, helps with fatigue and sleep disorder, and calms anxiety or grief.

“I don’t know where I’d be without Vaidya Naram and Dr. Tom Mitchell. I used to work out two hours a day, seven days a week, but in 2015 I started experiencing debilitating adrenal fatigue. I could hardly get through the day and would be exhausted by the time I reached the top of the stairs. I was also having chronic digestive problems and brain fog. The MDs I was seeing would tell me that my tests were normal, but I knew what I was experiencing was anything but normal.

When I went to the pulse clinic, Vaidya Naram took my pulse and then told me a list of my symptoms although she knew nothing about me. She was spot on! Then she and Dr. Mitchell gave me an action plan that included Ayurvedic supplements and some dietary changes. I left the consult feeling hopeful that I could get better, and I’ve continued to receive great support from Dr. Mitchell. Today I’ve begun improving, and I feel confident I’m on the right track toward renewed health.”

At the end of 30 days of following the diet recommended by Dr. Mitchell, I had dropped 24 pounds. I continued to do a monthly detox week for four months to improve my overall health. Altogether, I’ve lost 40 to 45 pounds. My follow-up labs showed measurable improvement in cholesterol, triglycerides, and blood sugar/insulin resistance. It’s a confidence booster, for sure. As important, I feel better and my overall stamina has improved.
